2. GAUTENG SHEBEEN PERMITS EXTENDED BY 24 MONTHS
Shebeen liquor permits in Gauteng, which expired on Wednesday, have been extended by 24 months beginning July 1, the Gauteng Liquor Board announced. This was to allow time to draft new regulations focusing on improving service delivery, compliance and enforcement.

3. WOOLWORTHS TO START SELLING LIQUOR
Woolworths Holdings Ltd. may start selling liquor in or next to its existing stores in South Africa, Fin24 reported. The company is piloting the project at stores in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Commentators speculate that Woolworths wants to tap into the lucrative liquor market after it discontinued a pharmacy venture it tried with Netcare Ltd.
